We Need State Leadership

Introduction:
With Trump’s term ended and the Republicans in the minority in Washington, our state legislatures and governors are now on the front line of the defense of our Republic as founded. The question I have for all our state leaders across the country is, do you realize this? If so, what are you going to do to protect our Republic?

I want to start by reading from an op-ed I wrote in the Greenville News in December 2015: “Today, what’s most alarming is how the federal government is starting to align with national corporations, the media and national organizations, and all are pushing a new national order. The aim of what I call the ‘New Federalism’ is to promote a national thought or way of doing things that will dominate not only governmental affairs, but all facets of life.”

Now, this is happening more and more with each passing year.

Past 50 Years:
Fifty years ago we had an independent and objective news media. Today the Democrat party is aligned with the media and both are working to push the left wing agenda. For instance, in late 2018 the Media Research Center reported 92% of the new stories in the 2nd quarter of that year were negative stories about President Trump and only 8% positive. The news media bias is thick enough to cut with a knife.

Fifty years ago corporations stood clear of politics. Today, the NBA is pushing Black Lives Matter and Nike is knee deep in the left wing agenda. Fifty years ago the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) was a civil rights organization that defended the rights of liberals AND conservatives. The old-ACLU would have come to the defense of conservatives who are having their social media accounts shut down or the systemic attack on Parler as a going concern. Today, the ACLU (now an arm of the Democrat party) is silent on this affront to the First Amendment and individual rights.

National Conglomerate:
This national conglomerate of government, corporations, organizations and the media is missing one piece — complete control of the federal government leadership. The Democrats have the Presidency, the Senate and House. Biden has formed a commission to reform the court system and possibly add justices to the Supreme Court -- stacking the Court. With all the pieces in place, this national conglomerate will start marching in unison. They will force their new national order down UPON THE STATES, by passing federal laws, issuing executive orders or federal court rulings.

The news media and Hollywood will echo the message. Social media will suppress opposing viewpoints. National corporations will step forward and market this left wing message to their fans. Organizations like the ACLU will be suing states and counties to help push this new national order through the courts onto the states.

Take A Stand:
Our state leaders, throughout this land, must understand how this is unfolding, articulate it to the people, and develop a strategy to deal with this national advance on states’ rights, counties and its citizens.

What will state leaders do when President Biden issues a radical executive order and those they represent in their states don’t want to follow it because they think Biden is illegitimate and the action is unconstitutional?

What will be the response when the Supreme Court issues a ruling the state leaders know disregards the Constitution and those they represent feel the ruling is illegitimate because the Dems have stacked the Court?

This national vs sovereign states type of Constitutional Crisis is coming and it will occur when this left-wing national conglomerate begins to shovel its radical agenda down the throats of states. State leaders must be prepared to deal with this… it is coming.

Conclusion:
The Constitution is no longer looked upon as a contract between the states that created the federal government, and restricted it to act on behalf of the states when a unified response or solution was needed. Instead, the national government with the national media, corporations and organizations have worn down constitutional restrictions and used the federal courts to expand national authority way beyond the cumulative power of the states.

Priority number one for is to tightening up the election laws that have been illegally bent out shape by secretary of states, election boards, and the courts.  Republicans need to lobby state legislatures to restore in-person voting with few exceptions for absentee voting.

Two, our nation is in a long-term moral, spiritual, social, economic and moral decline. Things will get worse across the board. Under Article V of the Constitution, the legislatures in two-thirds of the states can call for a Constitutional Convention to amend the Constitution. Republican leaders at the state level must push for a Convention of States to amend the US Constitution to reign in the out of control federal government.

The Articles of Confederation had term limits and recall for the representatives the states sent to the federal government. U.S. senators and House representatives must be term-limited and the states be able to recall their representatives at any time. A balanced budget amendment is also needed.

Third, Republican need to revisit the question of legality of nullification. Such a mechanism is needed so when states (acting in majority) could nullify a federal action they deemed beyond the federal government’s authority or unconstitutional. The Founding Fathers would not have ratified the Constitution if they knew the Congress could pass bills, have the president sign them and the Supreme Court rubber stamp them, and the states would have no formidable check on this federal process.
